Benefits of working from home 'revealed'
26/03/2007 08:37:05
Working from home does not necessarily translate into lead to lower productivity levels, a growing number of employers are now realising.
"A person who puts in eight hours of work every day in office, may be able to contribute the same amount as a person putting in four hours of work from home. And companies have recognised this aspect," Anis Uttanwala, chief executive officer of Character Sketches, a Mumbai-based recruitment firm, told Outlook Money.
For many genres of work, the benefits associated with not commuting and requiring no office-based infrastructure, outweigh the difficulties associated with a lack of supervision and face-to-face contacts.
"Any job that is information-based, is dependent solely on the employee concerned, calls for minimum on-line supervision, has a minimum amount of unpredictable face-to-face contact, and is physically portable offers good prospects for teleworking," Ganesh Chella, CEO of Totus Consulting, explained.
The growing popularity of working from home is particularly being felt amongst women and people who have difficulties travelling.
Last week, a survey of working mothers carried out by workingmums.co.uk found that 87 per cent of those polled would prefer to work remotely.
