Plasmon launches UDO2 storage solution

30 Apr 2007

Plasmon has launched a new second-generation ultra-density optical (UDO) archival storage solution.

The 60Gb UDO2 will provide double the capacity of previous systems and an increase in performance of 50 per cent over first-generation UDO systems.

Plasmon says the new storage solution will also allow customers to consolidate and scale their archives from 1TB to 76TB in one sole archival appliance.

Mike Koclanes, senior vice president of US sales and marketing, commented: "Plasmon is seeing strong interest in our UDO archive solutions and the architecture of our systems makes upgrading to UDO2 simple and non-disruptive.

"Those customers that are ready for UDO2 can have it now and those that want to make a transition later in the year can still take advantage of our low-cost upgrade program."

The vendor additionally states that the UDO2 will be read-compatible with previous systems, which will allow easy upgrades, extending system life and protecting current capital investments.

It was recently reported that Plasmon's UDO Archive Appliance would be combined with Symantec systems for minimising data corruption in Microsoft Exchange email environments.
