Plasmon used for crime-scene storage solution
09 May 2007
Plasmon's storage solutions have been used by the CSI unit of the Phoenix Police Department.
The department uses the technology for storing crime scene photographs having recently upgraded from traditional film to digital photography.
Lori Rhyons, who led the project upgrade, said she was aiming for a storage solution capable of delivering write once/read many (WORM) technology that could preserve image quality.
This was especially important to prevent modification in court environments, Ms Rhyons added.
Plasmon states that its Ultra Density Optical (UDO) media format "satisfied the department's need for a WORM technology, as well as providing it with a cost-effective solution that delivers safe, long-term storage for highly sensitive images".
Rhyons added that Plasmon was chosen because the department had previously been successfully using its magneto optical library for document management and archiving needs.
Meanwhile, Plasmon recently announced that its second-generation UDO doubles media capacity while halving archive cost.
