PowerDsine has been a pioneer in the growth of the Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology from the beginning and remains a leader in the ever expanding market place. Their PoE solutions provide a system whereby power can be submitted via the same network cable as data.

PowerDsine developed their first Power over Ethernet solution in 1998 and has since been shaping the market, promoting their own PowerDsine PoE midspan (PoE injector) technology to Power over Ethernet-enable legacy networks. In addition to this, some of the communications giants that have been delivering PowerDsine's technology include Avaya, 3Com, Nortel, Siemens and Ericsson.

PowerDsine was acquired by Microsemi in January, 2007. Microsemi Corporation is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of high performance analog and mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors. The company's semiconductors manage and control or regulate power, protect against transient voltage spikes and transmit, receive and amplify signals.
