Riverbed Performance Availability Monitoring

The Riverbed Performance Availability Monitoring (RPAM) service, provides customers with a comprehensive understanding of their Riverbed environment operationally and strategically via a Zycko managed service available via our reseller partners.

This service is especially useful for customers with Riverbed estates built up over years, where devices may be operating on diverse versions of RiOS, in branch offices that have changed their user and application profiles over time and in situations where the customer is considering their future WAN optimisation strategy.

The service can be rented for trouble shooting exercises short term, or employed year on year to provide a complete Riverbed Steelhead optimisation service.  Either choice provides detailed, but readable reports and recommendations that enable customers to leverage the maximum performance from their Riverbed investment and includes Professional Services hours to implement changes.

RPAM extracts and analyses 450-1,000 relevant pieces of information depending on RiOS version, Steelhead model and traffic patterns. Data from SNMP, Command Line Interface (CLI) and System Log (Syslog) is collected every 5 minutes from every Steelhead. Syslog and Command Line Interface (CLI) access is vital for the collation of transient and sustained data needed for trouble shooting. Relevant Syslog interpretation provides effective isolation and presentation of information needed to trouble shoot a problem quickly.  Long term the combination of SNMP, CLI and Syslog over time provides a platform for an effective proactive Managed Service.

Riverbed Performance Availability Monitoring service (RPAM) has two outputs:

Comprehensive monitoring of each Steelhead - examining up to 1,000 elements and modules depending on Steelhead model, RIOS version and traffic pattern. RPAM produces managed, real-time alerts along with remedial advice from the Riverbed and Zycko knowledge bases with the relevant Syslog extract to expedite trouble shooting.  Activities monitored include amongst others; hardware, software, network, gateway, data store, session, specific layer 7 performance issues such as SMB signing and encrypted MAPI etc.

Reporting - providing an effective management platform, Global and local Steelhead recommendations, for example configuration enhancements and sizing advice. A “traffic light” system and per Steelhead summary of the performance, health and status of the Riverbed environment for the Steelheads themselves, and global network performance issues that can effect Steelhead performance.  Capacity tracking, forecasting and planning Steelhead sizing and best fit upgrade options when moving from legacy models.

Installation, Data Collection and Deployment - RPAM can be deployed in less than a day with no interruption to the Riverbed service. The agent is preconfigured ready to plug into the network. Minimum changes are required on the Steelhead environment and no optimisation downtime, with network load less than 1%.
