Businesses' VoIP motivations revealed

16 Feb 2006

A survey of UK businesses has revealed that cost efficiency is just the tip of the iceberg where reasons for the uptake of VoIP are concerned.

The organisers of the VoIP for Business event – to take place in London next month – found that, while 55 per cent of respondents rated reduction of communications costs as "very important" in their VoIP motivations, identical numbers placed equal value in the benefits for flexible working and internal communications.

Furthermore, 50 per cent placed great importance in the increased productivity facilitated by VoIP, and the same number noted its critical impact in improving customer service.

It was also shown that IP telephony solutions are increasingly being used to enable an ever-widening range of converged communications systems – voice services, with 65 per cent, were the most popularly employed but desktop video, mobility and telecommuting were also services which ranked highly.

Adam Malik, event director of VoIP for Business, told CRM Today: "The survey shows not only that the IP telephony market is growing but also that it is maturing as organisations look to their IP networks and systems to deliver an increasingly wide variety of multi channel services."

Also encouraging was the fact that 50 per cent of VoIP solution owners surveyed said that they plan to increase their VoIP investments in the near future.
