17 Feb 2006
Huawei has announced that it has signed an important new agreement with Vodafone to supply branded 3G handsets.
The landmark partnership deal will see Huawei manufacture exclusive Vodafone-branded consumer handsets that will be distributed across 21 countries worldwide.
The five-year contract will provide Huawei with its first significant entry to the European handset market and the first Huawei manufactured, Vodafone-branded 3G handset will be available from September this year.
The deal represents the first time operator Vodafone has offered devices branded in this way to the consumer market and is aimed at improving value for the mobile giant's customers.
Ping Guo, senior vice president of Huawei, said: "This agreement will enable Huawei to become one of the world's leading players in handset development and production. We already have a strong presence in the global market and this agreement offers us a great opportunity to expand into new regions alongside the world's leading mobile community."
Huawei specialises in the research and development, production, sales and marketing of telecoms equipment, providing a range of products, services and solutions across the telecoms market. The company was recently named on a list of equipment suppliers to BT Group for its new 21st Century Network project.
