Riverbed scoops network award

05 May 2006

Riverbed Technology has announced that it has been given an award for its remote office solutions.

The San Francisco-based technology firm won the 2006 CMP Media Network Computing Well-Connected Award for remote office solutions for its Steelhead appliances.

The Network Computing awards are based on use and integration of solutions by technologists in an actual business environment. The annual awards honour products and services in 48 categories within eight information technology markets.

The reviewer testing the Riverbed Technology the Steelhead appliances praised their performance in speeding file transfers and application services between data centres and branch offices.

Reviewer Sean Doherty wrote: "In my tests, data traversing the WAN link for the first time had improved performance of 60 per cent to 90 per cent, depending on the file type. But the real story here is what happens after that first pass, when data passes through the Steelhead for a second time - that's where SDR (Scalable Data Referencing) comes in."

Riverbed's Steelhead appliances were tested against other remote office alternatives and came out on top. The appliances accelerate enterprise applications typically by five to 50 times between enterprise datacentres and remote offices.
