Manufacturers select Riverbed's SteelheadR appliances

20 Jun 2006

Two US-based manufacturers have selected and deployed Riverbed's SteelheadR appliances to improve application performance over wide area networks (WANs).

Contech Stormwater Solutions (CSS) and G&T Conveyor (G&T) opted for Riverbed's Steelhead appliances to ensure the transfer of large design and database files and to improve VoIP and video quality over WANs.

With offices on each US coast, CSS sought to integrate operations between the sites to enable real-time design while ensuring its VoIP and video conferencing systems worked smoothly over its existing T1 lines.

The IT department also sought to consolidate its Microsoft Exchange infrastructure in its Maine offices. CSS was able to install the Steelhead appliances in minutes.

"Riverbed out-performed the alternatives," said Mike Haskell, IT manager at CSS. "Once we deployed Riverbed, our applications performed much faster over the WAN."

After installing Steelhead appliances, CSS is now able to replicate the entire sales operations database in ten minutes, allowing the company to take orders in real-time on both coasts. Previously it took more than eight hours, making it impractical for CSS to process orders on both coasts.

Based in Orlando, Florida, G&T designs, manufactures and installs large scale baggage handling and explosive detection equipment for major airports throughout the world.
