IDC spells out business VoIP future for Australia

24 Oct 2006

Business VoIP networks in Australia saw significantly increased use in 2005 and this year, according to an IDC report titled "Australia Business Voice over IP Services and Equipment 2006-2010 Forecast and Analysis: Golden Egg Hidden in Services".

The report suggests that usage-based solutions will usurp technology-based solutions in firms' desires, and the VoIP solutions are starting to be introduced alongside vendors' IP PBX solutions as customer seek enhanced work efficiency and productivity.

Landry Fevre, research director for telecommunications at IDC, explained: "As VoIP market penetration increases and the complexity of deploying applications decreases we expect to see wider use of open standards. In addition we predict the integration of voice functionality into critical business applications that can be deployed out of the box."

Managed convergence services such as managed VoIP security, network capacity/support, application management, hosted voice solutions and contact centres will become particularly sought after in the coming years, he added.

IP hosted and IP Centrex are the most popular services for SMBs in Australian market - according to IDC, which also predicts that the total market revenue for VoIP services in the country will increase to A$462.12 million in 2010..
