QLogic launches first iSCSI HBAs in Linux kernel

02 Mar 2007

QLogic's SANblade 4000 is to be the first iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) accepted into the upstream Linux kernel.

Following collaboration with the Linux community, iSCSI offload HBA support was incorporated into the Linux kernel within the open iSCSI model.

Amit Vashi, senior director of marketing at QLogic, said: "Now that iSCSI technology has matured, and the Linux community has accepted it into the kernel, the way is paved for accelerated deployment of the technology.

"Today anyone that downloads a kernel will have immediate access to iSCSI connectivity and upcoming distributions will have iSCSI connectivity included on their respective CDs."

The firm claims that the changes will benefit QLogic customers, other iSCSI HBA vendors and users of software initiators who now manage iSCSI through the new framework.

QLogic also announced that it intends to continue working with the Linux community to boost the iSCSI functionality in the Linux kernel..
