QLogic to deliver HBA virtualisation solution

11 Apr 2007

QLogic has announced the launch of a HBA virtualisation solution for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server environments.

The N_Port ID Virtualisation technology for Linux systems is to allow storage administrators to create virtual HBA ports across multiple servers.

Qlogic states that HBA ports are essential as without them storage administrators must use a physical World Wide Port Name (WWPN) of the HBA to define fabric zones, mask storage LUNs and configure VMs.

Amit Vashi, senior director of marketing, QLogic Host Solutions Group, commented: "QLogic is first to market with NPIV technology for Linux OS environments, integrating the technology with the Novell ZENworks Orchestrator and Virtual Machine Management tools and allowing storage administrators to deploy virtual HBA ports for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server platforms."

The announcement follows reports that QLogic SANbox switches and SANblade host bus adapters are now being shipped in second-generation HP Storageworks.
