Businesses are 'embracing VoIP'
12 Apr 2007
Businesses are continuing to embrace VoIP technology, according to the latest research.
In-Stat reports that VoIP technology is currently being used by 20 per cent of US businesses, and that this trend is set to continue.
It adds that VoIP take-up is also likely to continue rising, with two-thirds of firms suggesting they will have some form of service by 2011.
David Lemelin, analyst at In-Stat, commented: "VoIP is particularly attractive to businesses with dispersed workforces, where long-distance savings can be easily achieved.
"However, VoIP is not typically embraced as the sole source of voice communications for the vast majority of businesses that have adopted VoIP to date."
The research also found that multiple VoIP solutions are currently being used by more than one third (36 per cent) of businesses, with broadband IP solutions featuring most strongly among smaller enterprises.
In related news, the University of Buffalo, USA has become one academic institution to start using VoIP as a replacement for older phone networks.
