Manufacturers 'should place greater emphasis on data recovery'
12 Apr 2007
Manufacturers should spend more time on implementing data recovery strategies, according to one expert.
By focussing energies on advanced storage management and disaster recovery software rather than data retrieval, firms risk facing extended periods of downtime that could otherwise be avoided.
Consequently, data storage management firm Acronis advises that a data recovery strategy is put in place that allows one to restore data to different types of hardware or to virtual systems.
Kevin Moreau, head of Acronis' UK operations, commented: "Manufacturing professionals face a real challenge in developing disaster recovery strategies.
"Many of them are only doing half the job and backing up their data without developing a fast, effective way of recovering it."
Mr Moreau added that taking advantage of high capacity and high performance disk drives is useful since they are coming down in price and are inherently more reliable.
The news follows research from Frost and Sullivan that data management among life sciences companies is set to soar.
