19 Apr 2007
Huawei has announced that it is to build Russia's first large-scale next-generation network in partnership with TransTelecom.
The IP network is to carry both international and national subscribers' international and national voice traffic and that it will span nine time zones from Europe to Asia.
Covering 170,055,000 sq km, the VoIP network is to reduce transmission costs as well as further evolution towards ALL-IP.
Oleg Mamontov, vice president of TransTeleCom and chairman of the toll network, commented: "With the joint effort of TransTeleCom and Huawei, we have brought in the NGN technology and deployed a large-scale network, as well as accumulating experience in constructing and operating a country-level NGN communication network.
"Based on this network, we will be able to provide network services of higher quality and service experience of greater diversity," he said
The NGN solution is expected to optimise the network structure by separating the call control layer from the bearer layer.
In related news, minister of economy for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) H E Sheikha Lubna Khaled Al Qasimi recently visited Huawei's headquarters, following the vendor's partnership with the UAE telecoms industry.
