Spectra Logic launches new data archive product category

19 Apr 2007

Spectra Logic has introduced a new product category aimed at satisfying demands for data archive and backup requirements in one platform.

The Spectra nTier will be the first product line in Spectra Logic's new Backup Server product category.

It is to offer a file system interface, unified backup and archive management applications, as well as the ability to search and retrieve archived information.

Spectra Logic adds that the nTier hardware will integrate disk and tape, together with archive and backup software applications. It is designed to allow for incremental storage additions as well as for modular upgrading.

Nathan Thompson, chief executive officer and founder of Spectra Logic, commented: "As industry and government mandates for data archive and backup continue to require data retention for longer durations, archive and backup platforms must be designed for use many years into the future.

He added "nTier offers upgradeable interfaces, storage, applications and processors to ensure the platform will meet customer needs today and many years into the future," he added.

Described as an all-in-one package, the appliance was unveiled to a small group of people at the Storage Networking World conference on Wednesday April 18th 2007.
