Isilon clustered storage used by NBC Universal
20 Apr 2007
Isilon IQ has been chosen to archive NBC's Universal's media programming content that includes movies, news and sports programming.
In a long-term scheme, the vendor states that NBC Universal will deploy multiple petabytes of Isilon clustered storage in its production and broadcast operations.
The technology is to be used to replace traditional tape-based technology, allowing faster access times and increased reliability.
David Evans, director of storage solutions and global operations at NBC Universal, commented: "Isilon IQ is uniquely architected to address the business needs of NBC Universal, enabling us to transform our digital media assets into new breakthroughs in the creation, management and delivery of high-quality programming."
Isilon technology is also to be used to deliver the first fully high-definition television broadcast of the Olympic Games.
The majority of the games' coverage will be stored through clustered storage, providing producers with "unprecedented" reliable access to content for reviews.
Isilon IQ has also been used as a storage platform for broadcast operations on XM Satellite radio.
