Polycom sets out plans for HD videoconferencing
30 Apr 2007
Polycom has unveiled plans for HD videoconferencing as part of its proposals to boost profitability and gain a greater share in the IP communications market.
Bob Hagerty, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the vendor, said that its drive is to improve communications between employees at different locations.
He added that Polycom is will recruit 150 sales people at the end of the second quarter to get more visibility among C-level executives and to increase its stance with respect to competitors.
Mr Hegarty told crn.com: "Pretty much in the history of this company we have never talked to the C-level."
"It's clear to us now that the C-suite is going to be the tipping point for [HD videoconferencing] and that's why [Cisco chairman and CEO] John Chambers and [HP chairman and CEO] Mark Hurd are talking to them," he said.
The announcements were made at the Polycom Global Partner Summit held in Boston, which also saw the roll out of the vendor's RMX 2000 Version 2.0.
The version allows customers to combine video conferencing endpoints with different resolutions within one call.
