'Rising numbers of businesses rolling out VoIP'
01 May 2007
The number of enterprises using VoIP networks has soared in the last couple of years, according to research.
A new industry survey from BT Ins found that 62 per cent of firms plan either plan to deploy VoIP or are in the process of doing so up from 44 per cent in 2005.
The research also found that network reliability, voice quality and security are the three most important criteria when selecting VoIP solutions.
It stated: "More than half of respondents (51 percent) have already developed a VoIP strategy in alignment with their companies' business imperatives, a considerable jump from 2005 when only 37 per cent of respondents had achieved this level of capability.
"Another 27 per cent are in the process of defining a strategy for integrating voice with data applications, while 19 per cent are exploring the possibility of developing new services that leverage integrated voice and data."
The research continued by saying that only three per cent of respondents are currently not planning to integrate voice and data applications.
The news comes as a report from Arcep suggests the number of VoIP-based calls doubled in 2006 and accounted for a quarter of total fixed-line calls in France.
