Data storage warnings from ONStor
03 May 2007
Data storage supplier ONStor has warned UK companies that maintaining paper-based records after October 2007 could result in the imposition of fines.
Highlighting the importance of transferring records to digitised data storage, ONStor states that the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) obliges businesses to phase out paper records.
The statement follows forecasts from KPMG, which predicted firms and public sector bodies with "legacy records" would begin to invest heavily in effective storage systems, Techworld reports.
ONStor asserts that compliance often provides the impetus required to implement secure digitised storage solutions.
"Rather than reacting to each regulation that comes into force, organisations should look at improving overall business efficiency and how they manage their data and information," it suggests.
In the autumn, ONStor announced that it had doubled its customer base within the past year by building its virtualisation capabilities, open storage offerings and price/performance driver growth.
