UK tops poll for usage of third party data recovery systems
03/05/2007 17:44:53
Recent research into data-related business disaster recovery and continuity practises has revealed that the UK is engaging more with third party solutions than the rest of Europe, the Middle East and Asia (EMEA).
A poll commissioned by Hitachi Data Systems and conducted by Vanson Bourne established that UK respondents used more third party disaster recovery sites than any other nation in EMEA.
It was joined in the top five by the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway and Switzerland.
While 37 per cent of UK companies used third party recovery systems, the most common means of ensuring business continuity remains offsite tape backup, with 52 per cent of respondents focusing on this method, Continuity Central reports.
In contrast, the UK took last place when asked when their data recovery systems had last been tested, with only seven per cent of respondents in the country having trialled them within the last three months.
In February, Hitachi Data Systems announced the acquisition of Archivas, a next-generation digital archive storage system.
The firm suggested that such a purchase would allow it to make moves into the content aware storage market.
