"Explosive growth" in storage market predicted
16 May 2007
The disk storage market is set for an "explosive growth" over the next half decade, according to new research by analyst IDC.
Data from IDC suggests that compound annual growth until 2011 will be 60 per cent, with the worldwide disk storage systems capacity remaining strong, according to the analyst's report.
IDC also found that ISCSI SAN will remain the fastest-growing interconnect segment of the market, as it represents a quarter of external disk storage systems market revenue.
Spokesperson Natalya Yezhkova commented: "Storage system OEMs will be thrilled with new opportunities generated by explosive growth in fixed content and data protection initiatives, by user concerns about data management and regulatory compliance and by demand for more efficient energy consumption and data reduction tools."
Programme director Dave Reinsel added that the disk storage industry now faces the challenge of providing the right features at appropriate costs, with a focus on storage efficiencies.
The news follows research from Hitachi Data Systems, which found that the UK is engaging in more third-party data recovery solutions than the rest of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
