Scotland 'leads UK VoIP market'
29 May 2007
Research suggests that Scotland has the largest uptake of VoIP in the UK.
A new report from Ofcom has discovered that 19 per cent of Scottish internet users use VoIP in comparison with those with other parts of the UK such as England where the figure was 18 per cent.
The research also found that people in Scotland believe that having a landline phone available to every home is nearly as important as having a supply of electricity.
Other findings included statistics that nearly a third (29 per cent) of Scots took multiple services from a telecoms provider last year, with Northern Ireland the highest (32 per cent) and Wales the lowest (22 per cent).
Furthermore, the proportion of UK households able to receive competitive telecommunications services through local loop unbundling rose by 27 per cent over the 2005-06 year.
In related news, data from Infonetics suggested that while the market for VoIP has softened it still grew year-on-year in 2006..
