29 May 2007

Data storage security is among the top five spending priorities among new enterprises, according to research from the Taneja Group.

The report vendor NeoScale Systems, found that 68 per cent of people rate storage security as a top five concern, with almost 30 per cent ranking it as of prime importance.

Other issues raised included global key management, with 54 per cent of users considering deploying such a strategy in the next 12 months.

Steve Norall, senior analyst at the Taneja Group, commented: "Storage security has arrived. Our research clearly indicates that the visibility and understanding of the need to protect data at rest has increased dramatically over the past 18 months.

"NeoScale Systems has emerged as an early thought leader in driving end users to think about the role of key management as they scale and manage their secured storage environments."

Some 116 enterprises were surveyed for the research, with the financial services sector represented most among respondents.

NeoScale states that it is working to ensure that data is protected adequately and that the privacy of data storage is maintained.

The vendor recently announced its Global key Management vision and support for an interoperable key management platform.
