VR Netze business optimised with WDS from Riverbed

03 Jul 2007

VR Netze, a service arm of the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken cooperative banking group, has elected to use the Steelhead wide-area data services (WDS) from Riverbed Technology to optimise the performance of applications essential to the DZ Bank sites at a number of worldwide locations, including those in London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Prior to the use of Riverbed, centralisation of the operations and IT infrastructure of DZ Bank at its headquarters in Frankfurt had led to an increased response time for users of a number of vital business applications over its WAN, including Notes.

Consequently, the telecommunications service provider for the DZ Bank, GAD group and member banks opted to use WDS as a means to overcome this latency.

Peter Eckert, head of nework operations at VR Netze, said: "We needed to deliver headquarters-like performance to DZ Bank's employees outside of Germany and performance improvements of between 30 and 50 percent just would not have been adequate."

He added that only the use of WDS could provide the company with the necessary improvements in system performance to provide this necessary increase in its service quality.

In May 2007, Riverbed announced the launch of its WDS Forum which aims to provider users with information and discussion opportunities regarding centralised IT processes and the issues arising as a result of a distributed workforce.
