Firms 'looking to boost data centre efficiency'
03 Sep 2007
Companies are looking to save money and energy by enhancing the energy efficiency of their data centres, it has been claimed.
Operator Digital Realty Trust is to publish a study this month exploring the views of a number of senior executives at larger firms on the issue of data centres and the environment.
The report will state that over half of these firms already have existing green data centre plans, with these plans backed by senior level management with sufficient funding.
Jim Smith, vice president of engineering at the firm, was quoted by CRN as saying: "Being green in the data centre means saving money on the bottom line."
He added that consequently many firms state they are seeking green credentials, with most talking definite actions and providing the necessary budget for the realisation of a green strategy.
Last month, a report from the Environmental Protection Agency in the US claimed that data centres in that country could save up to $4bn (£1.98bn) in electricity bills by enhancing their energy efficiency.
