Hitachi 'simplifies data storage'

24 Oct 2007

Hitachi Data Systems claims to have created a data storage solution so simple that no training is required in order to install it.

The Simple Modular Storage Model 100 is an entry-level unit which replaces many of the typical elements of storage solutions with "intuitive, nearly instinctual" alternatives and so aims to reduce the hours spent reading manuals and mastering interfaces.

Low in cost, Hitachi argues that the product is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses with "burgeoning" requirements in both data storage and data protection, as well as being suitable for adding branch offices to distributed enterprises.

Mike Walkey, senior vice-president of global volume channels at Hitachi Data Systems, comments: "Hitachi has fused together the enterprise-class capabilities of its market-leading storage systems with the ease-of-use of its consumer electronics products in the all-new Hitachi Simple Modular Storage system."

UK managing director Steve Murphy recently noted that the lowering cost of server virtualisation has allowed many small businesses to employ the benefits of implementing the technology.
