iSCSI uptake 'should be widespread'
29 Oct 2007
IT managers should be making widespread use of iSCSI network infrastructures, according to an analyst.
Andrew Reichman, an analyst with Forrester Research, tells SearchStorage of the need to assess new technologies, but he adds that testing new protocols should not dissuade network managers from making use of the benefits they offer.
"There will be some applications with the type of input/output operations per second that need Fibre Channel, but users will eventually treat it as a tier and buy only as much as is really required," Mr Reichman tells the publication.
"People should be judicious and test iSCSI but use it as much as they can."
SearchStorage reports that analysts anticipate that iSCSI will become the industry standard within the next five years.
Intransa introduced its Storstac PCU100 scalable IP storage area network system earlier this year to address the need for solutions which cater for both high-performance data throughput and the increasing uptake of iSCSI products.
