Clustered storage 'offers good ROI'
30 Oct 2007
Return on investment (ROI) can be maximised by the use of clustered file storage, it has been claimed.
Steve Norall, senior analyst with the Taneja Group, tells InfoStor magazine of the benefits which can be derived from consolidating existing servers on to a clustered system.
He writes: "File server consolidation has emerged as a way to reduce overall management and gain greater control over scattered unstructured data resources. End users that we have spoken with have reported ROI of between 30 and 50 per cent."
Mr Norall adds that businesses are increasingly "waking up" to the need to gain tighter control over their IT systems in the light that one in five Windows servers is dedicated solely to file and print serving.
Servers from ONStor are singled out as being among the most suitable for implementing clustered storage due to their support of various different protocols.
The Taneja Group has previously noted the energy efficiency of ONStor's clustered network-attached storage systems' power management units, which run on 160 Watts - less than half the industry standard.
