Virtualisation 'driving powerful shift in IT'
21 Jan 2008
All aspects of the IT industry are facing a "powerful shift" thanks to the influence of virtualisation technologies, it has been claimed.
Ziff Davis Enterprise is scheduled to hold its 2008 Virtualisation Summit in Washington DC on January 23rd to discuss the implications the developing technology has on the industry as a whole.
Editorial director Joseph Maglitta explains that the issue relates to a wider range of devices than has previously been the case.
"New technologies that virtualise not just servers but storage, applications, desktops and networks are driving a powerful shift toward utility computing, which promises to redefine IT and the industry," he observes.
More than 100 IT industry insiders are expected to attend the event, which aims to determine the most effective ways of employing virtualisation in order to maximise return on investment.
Ziff Davis Enterprise notes research conducted by industry analyst IDC which predicts total expenditure of $15 billion (£7.6 billion) on virtualisation by 2009..
