InfiniBand features 'key to high performance'
27 Feb 2008
The features made available to data networks through QLogic's InfiniBand host channel adapters are crucial to achieving the best performance from the infrastructure, a spokesperson claims.
Frank Berry, vice-president of marketing at QLogic, explains that the combination of high bandwidth and low latency is "key" to achieving high performance when implemented as part of a clustered storage solution.
He says: "InfiniBand offers up to 20 Gb of bandwidth that can be used to eliminate the need for separate physical server connections to storage and network resources."
In this way, he asserts that the cost and complexity of operating a data centre may be reduced, while the overall performance of the network may be increased.
QLogic adds that InfiniBand provides users with a "single pipe" architecture, combining server, storage and network traffic into a unified communication paradigm.
The company recently announced plans to cross-certify its products with LSI, helping customers of the two companies to identify solutions which will operate well together.
