DVR Raid 'can prevent data loss'
29 Feb 2008
Implementing Raid across a digital video recording (DVR) or network video recording (NVR) system can help to prevent data loss, according to Intransa.
The firm suggests upgrading existing systems with the addition of extra storage space - as well as setting up extra drives to operate in a Raid array in order to take advantage of the redundancy offered by such a setup.
As a result of doing so, the three Rs - reliability, resolution and retention - may all be employed to the fullest extent, Intransa asserts.
By failing to incorporate redundancy into the storage array for a video recording system, the firm warns that footage may be lost should the disk fail - including that which had previously been stored.
Intransa urges network operators to consider its Scalable DVR/NVR Storage Upgrade solution as an alternative to simply adding more DVR or NVR devices to their existing infrastructure.
The company recently revealed that its chief executive officer Bud Broomhead had presented at the Security Engineering Symposium in Fort Meyers, Florida, highlighting issues of how IP storage can help to maintain the three Rs for DVR and NVR networks.
