Virtualisation 'reduces risk, cost and complexity'

12 Mar 2008

A unified storage solution based around virtualisation can have multiple benefits for businesses, according to Hitachi Data Services (HDS).

John Mansfield, senior vice-president of global solutions strategy and development, explains that mainframe systems are critical to many organisations.

"Hitachi is fully committed to providing these customers with the highest availability and performance to meet their business needs," he says.

Mr Mansfield adds: "Hitachi is uniquely positioned to enable organizations to reduce cost, complexity and risk by leveraging a common virtualised storage platform."

Businesses are told by HDS that it remains the only company in the market to offer virtualisation for mainframe storage environments.

This helps to put in place centrally managed systems for data migration, tiered storage and replication.

Meanwhile, medium-sized organisations were recently told of the advantages of new HDS virtual tape library appliances.

These include comprehensive deduplication processes which can accelerate the backup process by eliminating redundant data.
