Three forces to V-Switch uptake, says SANRAD
12 Mar 2008
There are three determining factors behind the use of SANRAD's V-Switches by customers, according to vice-president of marketing Kim Tchang.
She tells IT storage publication Blocks & Files of the "seemingly unstoppable rise" of server virtualisation and a similar increase in iSCSI as an alternative to Fibre Channel-based networks.
These combine to have a knock-on effect on disaster recovery as, the publication notes, consolidation may be seen by some as akin to putting "server and storage facilities in one basket".
But by implementing SANRAD devices, data may be replicated between the main and backup locations, while existing Fibre Channelstorage-area networks may be extended to include branch offices.
For companies with hundreds of physical servers, SANRAD explains that its V-Switch appliances can incorporate many devices into a single network without the need for individual host bus adapters.
SANRAD recently cited accelerating demand for intelligent network switches worldwide as a determining factor in it recording double-digit sales growth in the fourth quarter of 2007.
