Riverbed 'achieves 99% data reduction'

20 Mar 2008

Data storage requirements may be reduced by up to 99 per cent by installing Riverbed products, the company suggests.

Senior director of alliances Venugopal Pai notes that the firm's Steelhead appliances have proved effective on a number of criteria in testing conducted on a real-life basis.

"In real-world tests, customers running SAP solutions who have deployed Riverbed's wide-area data solutions have seen performance improvements of up to five times and reductions in data of up to 99 per cent," he says.

The increase in available bandwidth which accompanies this reduction in data can allow up to 17 times the network capacity, Riverbed adds.

Mr Pai reports that more than 3,500 firms around the world have now installed Riverbed appliances as a means of accelerating access to their critical applications.

Riverbed recently revealed that its products have allowed multidisciplinary firm Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon to permit collaboration across its 12 locations in the US.
