Companies deem data loss critical, says IDC
20 Mar 2008
The issue of data loss and how to prevent it occurring is now deemed "critical" by many companies, according to IDC.
Research conducted by the analyst found that information protection and control (IPC) is now driving increased interest in solutions to minimise the impact of any data loss which may take place.
Companies which responded to the survey stated that they are looking to protect data both by monitoring its usage and, where necessary, by putting in place encryption processes.
IDC noted that these are in demand for data both during storage and while it is in use or being transferred via the network.
Overall, 81 per cent of those surveyed said that IPC is an important part of their strategy when attempting to protect sensitive data.
Previous research from the firm recently revealed that VoIP and virtualisation technologies are currently ranked among the top five disciplines likely to be in demand from chief information officers in 2009.
