Riverbed maintains market lead

Riverbed Technology has been ranked as the leader in its sector for the sixth consecutive quarter by analyst Gartner.
The research firm places Riverbed Technology at the top of its league table for the wide-area network optimisation controller advanced platform category.
More than a quarter (29 per cent) of all business in the sector was secured by Riverbed during the fourth quarter of 2007, the period analysed in the most recent Gartner study.
Figures from the analyst show that the beginning of 2008 has proved equally successful for Riverbed Technology, with version 5.0 of its optimisation system introduced in February.
Senior vice-president of marketing and business development Eric Wolford notes that Riverbed prefers to refer to the category as "wide-area data services".
Riverbed Technology recently announced that it was positioning itself for further expansion in the future with the appointment of Thomas Bakewell to the role of chief information officer.
