power management solutions provider Eaton asserts that IT professionals should seek ways in which to save energy in their storage systems.
By doing so, a spokesperson for the firm suggests that cost savings of up to 50 per cent may be achieved and the proportion of expenditure which goes towards actually powering the facility raised from less than a quarter to almost half.
Chris Loeffler, product manager for EatonData Centre Solutions, says: "It is essential to identify opportunities to save energy in the data centre; there can be a balance between the cost savings and sustainability of energy efficiency with the critical demand for power quality."
Mr Loeffler is now due to present on the top ten ways in which data centre managers can save energy in a speech to be delivered at the AFCOM Data Centre World spring conference in Las Vegas.
Eaton Powerware solutions come with varying levels of protection, ranging from uninterruptible power supplies for total mains supply cut-outs, to devices which compensate for undervoltage or overvoltage conditions and line distortion.
