Force10 notes 'tremendous reliance' on networks
25 Apr 2008
Force10 reports a growing reliance on highly available networks due to the increasing uptake of web-based applications and services.
According to the firm, the rise of Web 2.0 is putting in place renewed capacity requirements in the data centres of internet-based operators which make use of such technologies.
The popularity of multimedia content such as video footage and online games, along with common usage of social networking, are suggested as driving forces behind this exponential growth in requirements.
Force10 asserts that firms which plan for "emerging and evolving" technologies should find their overall operating costs reduced as a result.
Marc Randall, chief executive officer at Force10 Networks, says: "The explosion of web services has created tremendous reliance on the network coupled with the expectation that these services are always available to a demanding user base."
The company recently assisted University College London in an effort to put in place the necessary infrastructure to support a high-speed research network across the educational facility's campus.
