Employers 'seeking certified storage professionals'
29 Apr 2008
The need for IT professionals to be certified could be set to grow over the coming years, it has been claimed.
Industry publication Byte and Switch notes that many employers are looking for experts with paper qualifications to support their claims of having "storage skills".
However, there could be a divide between those who obtain certification from a specific vendor and those who qualify with industry bodies.
"Storage managers looking for certifications that are not tied to one company's products can look to professional organisations," Byte and Switch explains.
The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is one such organisation, which the article claims is likely to provide training on more general skills, rather than vendor-specific issues.
But holding certification from a particular company could highlight an individual as being an expert in designing infrastructure around that firm's products.
"Professionals can find what they're looking for from a variety of different sources," observes Byte and Switch.
The SNIA asserts that by evolving and enhancing its Storage Networking Certification Programme it is establishing a uniform standard by which professionals' skills may be measured and compared..
