Eaton provides 'unprecedented visibility' to power events
02 May 2008
For "unprecedented visibility" of power events which occur within the data centre, Eaton recommends its new Power Xpert server solution.
The unit comprises a current transformer, Ethernet switch, power quality meter and installation equipment, all of which is used to show electrical information to the user in a graphical format.
A web browser is the only software required to access the monitoring functions, which include a simple traffic lights system to alert the administrator to the health of the data centre's power supply.
Jim Thompson, product line manager for software and meters at Eaton, says: "The entire community of IT professionals is increasingly being asked to understand electricity because damaging power disturbances such as sags, swells and transients pose threats to critical infrastructure equipment."
Eaton advises that Power Xpert provides a view of the data centre's energy from "both sides of the fence", including both the internal usage of energy and the quality of the mains supply coming into an installation.
