Future power needs must be planned now, says Force10

The future of data centre power usage must be planned now in order to ensure growing energy demands can be met, according to Force10 Networks.
Force10 explains that the accelerating uptake of non-traditional technologies such as VoIP and wireless networking is leading to new strains being placed on existing infrastructure.
But careful planning and the use of interoperable devices can help to put in place a robust basis from which to build for the future without impacting upon reliability and eco-efficiency, a spokesperson suggests.
Stephen Garrison, vice-president of marketing at Force10 Networks, says: "As more bandwidth-intensive collaborative applications are added to the network, power consumption will rise to unsustainable levels unless we address and implement eco-efficient designs today."
Next-generation technologies are recommended by the firm for businesses looking to overhaul their network systems and prepare for the demands expected to be faced in the future.
Force10 recently revealed that it had been awarded its 20th patent, helping to safeguard the design of its products and, the company said, demonstrating its contribution to network reliability and stability.
