FSC notes green benefits of FibreCAT systems
06 May 2008
FibreCAT magnetic tape storage systems from Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) have "multiple green characteristics", the company has reported.
The manufacturer suggests that optimised energy features add to the already competitive power profile of tape-based storage in its second-generation FibreCAT TX24 and TX48 modules.
Meanwhile, using eco-friendly materials during the production process is identified as a further way in which the second series of the storage systems helps to minimise the impact they have on the environment.
"Our customers benefit in two ways; they get future-proof, reliable devices that work with the latest storage technology and these devices are also state-of-the-art in terms of environmental compatibility," comments vice-president of FSC's storage business Dr Helmut Beck.
FSC adds that the power benefits of tape storage are derived from the fact that energy is only consumed when the tape is being written to or read, rather than the power used while a disk is idle.
The company recently launched a new contest, open to all, which aims to identify innovation within the data storage industry for the establishment of "tomorrow's data centre".
