SMEs early adopters of virtualisation, says Virtual Iron
06 May 2008
The first companies to benefit from adopting a virtualised network infrastructure were small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it has been suggested.
Director of marketing at Virtual Iron Tim Walsh makes the observation in a recent blog post for the company discussing the topic of cloud computing.
He notes that small businesses are "quite clearly" turning to cloud computing ahead of their larger counterparts - and that suppliers hoping to benefit from early entry into the market would be wise to target SMEs as a result.
Mr Walsh comments that more innovative practitioners within a given sector "target classic early adopters in the SME space".
He adds that, following a previous post on the topic of cloud computing, the response witnessed occurred on a global nature and caught the author off guard in terms of its "sheer volume".
In a preceding article on the Virtual Iron blog, Mr Walsh proposed that, while the short-term benefits of cloud computing may not be immediately apparent, it is likely to prove to be an important trend in the long term.
