Huawei unveils 10 Tbps switch
08 May 2008
Huawei has unveiled its latest router, the NE5000E, with industry-leading switch capacity of 10 Tbps intended to cater for the increasing levels of traffic served via IP networks.
The company explains that bandwidth demands have "increased dramatically" due to the uptake of new networking protocols and a move towards living digital lifestyles - including the use of such technology in the home.
Samuel Chen, vice-president of Huawei's network product line, says: "We are excited about the high-end NE5000E Core Router Multi-chassis Cluster System, which will pave the way for operators to evolve into an all-IP era while enhancing energy efficiency."
The NE5000E's environmentally friendly benefits are derived in part from the use of ASIC-based core chips, which offer power consumption reductions of potentially more than 40 per cent.
Huawei recently hosted more than 40 analysts from around the world at its headquarters at a two-day event which focused on recent launches made by the firm and its anticipation of the likely trends to emerge in the next-generation telecommunications market over the coming years.
