Virtual Iron surpasses 2,000 users

08 May 2008

Virtualised network software provider Virtual Iron has reported reaching 2,000 user deployments.

The company anticipates future growth in the coming years across the sector, citing research which predicts the virtualisation industry as a whole will grow from being worth $800 million (£400 million) in 2006 to a possible $7 billion in 2011.

Virtual Iron adds that 70 per cent of its current 2,000 customers are small or medium-sized businesses which may lack the budget or depth of resources to adopt a higher-priced alternative.

"There is tremendous demand worldwide for an alternative server virtualisation solution," comments president and chief executive officer of Virtual Iron Ed Walsh.

In April Virtual Iron announced it had been added to the Northeast's 100 Top Companies for 2008 shortlist compiled by 'blogozine' publisher AlwaysOn.

Chief marketing officer Mike Grandinetti said at the time that "the server virtualisation market is an unbelievably exciting opportunity" and that firms of all sizes are adopting such technology.
