Networking providers 'aim to be unique'
09 May 2008
Providers of storage networking products typically aim to offer a unique service which can be seen to be distinct from that of their competitors, it has been claimed.
Writing for SearchStorage, Antony Adshead notes that variation among companies has resulted in the use of terms with subtly different meanings, such as network-attached storage and storage area networks.
He adds that events such as the recent Storage Networking Industry Association Certified Storage Professional training course are useful in obtaining non-vendor-specific insight for many delegates.
In this way, he proposes that those who attend may leave better equipped to assess the needs of their business and determine which products - regardless of vendor - are best suited to meeting their requirements.
Mr Adshead's assertions follow the suggestion in industry publication Byte and Switch that employers are increasingly likely to seek IT professionals with qualifications - whether from a vendor or a more general organisation.
