Organisations 'need flexible data replication'
13 May 2008
Flexible data replication products can carry multiple benefits for organisations, it has been suggested.
Writing for StorageProPortal, Ian Masters advises that such appliances can be of use for companies which have not yet purchased such a product, as well as being of continuing benefit to those which have already implemented data replication.
"If an organisation is already using an independent data replication solution within its business continuity plan, it may be flexible enough to be used within virtual infrastructures," he contends.
Mr Masters adds that flexible data replication is typically a more effective option than tape-based solutions, with the capability of offering "very useful" management tools to administrators.
The advantage comes as virtualised networks can be difficult to restore fully from tape archives, according to the author.
Data storage solutions provider Spectra Logic advises that, by adopting a combined disk and tape-based infrastructure, IT managers can use each technology as a "safety net" for the other's weaknesses.
