Payback 'better with more virtualisation'

13 May 2008

The more you virtualise, the better you can expect your reward to be, according to industry news provider silicon.com.

Anticipating greater levels of competition in the virtualisation market in the future, silicon.com predicts that the price of acquiring virtualised network solutions is likely to be closely linked to the cost of implementing such an infrastructure.

David Tebbutt of analyst Freeform Dynamics tells the resource: "You'll see that to make the economics work for buyer and seller, the more the applications, processing and storage can be virtualised, the better the paybacks all round."

However, he adds that the definition of cloud computing currently changes depending on who an individual is talking to, making it more difficult to have a "sensible conversation".

Mr Tebbutt observes that the common feature of all computing clouds is their ability to overcome capacity limitations on the central network.

Writing for virtualisation software provider Virtual Iron, the firm's Mike Grandinetti previously noted that cloud computing has become a "hot trend" in recent weeks.
