Systematic analysis 'needed for power assessment'
14 May 2008
When assessing power usage in data centres, a systematic approach is required, according to The Green Grid.
The ecologically minded industry association has recently published a new white paper addressing data centre productivity.
In the document, The Green Grid notes that standardised tools have not historically been available to address productivity of the data centre at all levels.
Such assessment is of growing importance, however, as the organisation notes that energy bills are increasing even for those firms which are not looking to raise the amount of power at their disposal.
"For those who have an abundant supply of power, there is still the issue of the ever increasing power bill," the document explains.
The Green Grid adds that some chief information officers are planning to relocate their data centres in light of restricted availability of energy at their current sites.
A recent announcement from the organisation revealed it is to work with the Storage Networking Industry Association to implement green working principles across the data storage sector.
